PowerCostAtlas is an independent set of tools for turning electricity use into understandable dollar estimates. The site is designed around a simple question: if a device draws a certain amount of power, what does that mean for a household electricity bill in a particular U.S. state?

Data and automation

State residential electricity prices come from public U.S. Energy Information Administration data. A scheduled updater checks for newly published monthly values and refreshes the local dataset when the source changes. Calculations are produced programmatically from the displayed inputs and rate.

Why state averages?

State averages make it possible to compare locations without requiring a utility account or address. They are useful benchmarks, but they are not substitutes for an individual utility tariff. Users can enter the cents-per-kWh value from their own bill for a more specific estimate.

PowerCostAtlas is not affiliated with the U.S. Energy Information Administration, an electric utility, or an energy retailer. Source attribution does not imply endorsement.
